Braids Take Over the Runway at Fashion Week

Fashion week is always a great place for style inspiration for fashion, hair, and makeup, and this year certainly did not disappoint. The hair experts at Bumble and bumble stepped up to complete looks for many of the show's designers -  walking away having created the next trend for hair on the catwalk. These slicked-back and braided-low looks complement the fashion and add a sense of modern elegance to each look.
Self-Portrait NYFW SS20For Self-Portrait SS20, session hairstylist Jimmy Paul took inspiration from the singer Sade where hair was worn slicked-back and spanned into a long braid in back. "We wanted the hair very sleek, and very shiny," says Paul, as he goes on to explain how he and his team achieved these looks.

Get the Look: Prep damp hair with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer. For thick/curly hair, saturate hair with All-Style Blow Dry. Comb through a generous amount of Bb.Gel from root to ends. Pull hair into a tight, low pony and braid all the way down, leaving out a small section to wrap around the ponytail elastic. Secure the braid with elastic, and lock in the look with Strong Finish.

Jonathan Cohen at NYFW SS20For Jonathan Cohen SS20, Bumble and bubble global Fashion Director Laurent Philippon said, “We wanted to give the hair a summery feel – with an '80s touch. There’s some braiding, cornrows, shine, and mixing of fabrics in the hair, handpicked by Jonathan. I’ve always loved playing with fabrics and braids – I find it very elegant, like playing dress-up for the head. It’s very cool but very elegant.”

“I’m in a long-term relationship with Thickening Spray,” added Laurent. “We’ve been in love for many, many, many years.” To create these looks he recommends the following: Brush Thickening Spray throughout damp hair, and rough blow-dry. Use a fishtail comb to create a strong center part. For a light and airy hold, brush Does It All through the hair section by section, then use an iron to create natural undone waves. Add more shine by spritzing NEW Sumo Liquid Wax + Finishing Spray at the root, then comb through. For '80s elegance, create a strong center part, then slick hair into a low pony using Bb.Gel. Wrap the patterned fabric around the root of the ponytail and begin braiding it into the hair. Tie off the braid using the fabric.
