The new gotta-have-it look is all about the undercut! And Katy Perry has recently embraced the look for herself.
When it comes to this trend, Pon Saradeth of Pon International in Anaheim Hills, CA was quick to remark, "Bumble and Bumble introduced the look about 15 years ago, but the industry simply wasn’t ready. Now, this trend is exploding everywhere, including here in a somewhat conservative area."
According to this trendsetting salon owner, the beauty with this cut is how many variations there are, which offers something for everyone. For the super-progressive minded, the sides and backs are usually closely clipper cut while length on top gives versatility. These cuts can be worn straight, curly, wavy, messy, slicked back or in a classically inspired pomp. And for the masculine side, hard parts are still oh-so-style’n!
There are also versions of the undercut with unique carvings, those that are asymmetrical and others that are more conservative, only carving out the very bottom of the hair. This leaves the length on top and looks like a normal bob or longer layers when hair is worn down. Ideal for the corporate woman who prefers a more conservative coif by day but cuts loose at night and on weekends.
