Tracy wanted to create a finished look that was a collision of textures -- hard and soft alike, with a very “Joan Jett” inspired finish.

To start off the look, she initiated the color by using a combination of medium red violet toned brown, very dark violet toned brown, and panels of bright red violet sneaking out from the interior.

“I wanted to produce big bites of color,” says Guthrie Vastag, “while creating a visual melding from one color to the next.  To get this look, I took large, randomly placed sections of intense color and blurred them together with the darker base color.  The key to getting this look was allowing myself to get lost in the placement of color.  In other words, instead of purposely placing a specific color in a specific place on the head, I just picked up the color that felt right at that moment.  When you look closely at the end result you’ll see that while the color is balanced from side to side it’s not equal from side to side, very much on purpose to create visual beauty and balance without perfect symmetry.”

For the finish, Tracy visualized something with ultra surface tension for the top.  After blow-drying the hair on the top section with just her fingers and pulling straight up and out, she then applied a generous amount of Redken Urban Experiment Enamel Gel all over to create firm spikes with extreme shine.  For the lengths of hair she utilized Urban Experiment Velvet Gelatine from the scalp to ends and blow-dried with a round brush for softer movement.  To create added separation a small amount of Redken Electric Wax 11 was blended with Redken Glass 01 and applied throughout the mid shaft and ends.  Once the hair was in place, the interior was sprayed with Redken Workforce 09 medium control hairspray to prevent the lengths from collapsing.
