The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) hosted the International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) on January 30th-February 1st, 2016 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. Recognized by Trade Show News Network as one of the industry’s leading shows, ISSE attracted tens of thousands of licensed professionals each day for a variety of industry-specific classes, shows, competitions, demonstrations, and exhibits.
The 2016 International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) brought together the industry’s most influential beauty professionals including George Alderete, Chrystofer Benson, Andrew Carruthers, Tabatha Coffey, Tracey Hughes, Anthony Gianotti “Anthony the Barber” and Sam Villa. Center Stage performances by these and other extraordinary stylists and platform artists inspired attendees as they shared their knowledge, skills and creativity through technical demonstrations and artistic performances.
From the NAHA stage, North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) veterans taught how to transform creative visions into looks that stun clients. Multiple NAHA winner Charlie Pricealsoconstructed a special NAHA learning event as part of a three-part webinar. He took participants through the stages of photo shoot production from concept and storyboarding, to model selection and choosing the best photographer, allowing attendees to watch the process come to life.
There were also complementary classes by various artists and brands throughout the three-day event. These classes included hair, skin, nails, and business curriculums specifically for the industry.
Dedicated to nail professionals the Nail Spot at ISSE featured creative and technical education. This year Sam Briddle with Orly demonstrated and taught fundamental basics attendees can easily apply to create simple to complex designs.
In addition to ISSE’s exhibits, shows and education, hair competitions were held on Sunday, January 31st with competitions for both junior and senior professionals. Categories included: Ladies’ Progressive Cut, Color and Style by OMC, Avant Garde by NAHA, and A Night at the Oscars®. Hot Hands Barber Brawl returned this year on Monday, February 1st with categories including: Student Barber Traditional, Traditional, Fastest Barber on Earth, and Original Tag Team.
