Young dominatrixes with an industrial edge, this collection portrays a strong, sexy, powerful image with a hint of vulnerability at the same time. For this series, hairstylist Kelly Manu of Blaze salon in New Zealand created hair that offers a play on textures, a mix of sleek versus noise. Every look has an element of each, coupled with shape and movement to create a strong, graphic look with an undone structure.

The Art Team at D&J Ambrose goes for an icy appeal for these winter-worthy looks for hair. A little bit retro with hints of shagginess, bitten baby bangs and wavy, tendril-like length is offset by cool-hued texture throughout. Color ranges from ice white platinum and silvery greyed blondes to muted mahogany with a warm focal point or a transition from greyed out black to barely brown darkness.

Whitney VerMeer’s interest is deeply embedded in creative design and sculpting, editorial photo work, session styling, and catering to creative and high-end clientele. Following school, she worked as a generalist for five years until channeling her interest to specialize solely in modern barbering. Whitney quickly fell in love with the ability to sculpt something and make it far more tailored for each client, which has taken her on a journey over the years to build her brand and acquire mastery over her craft.

This textural body of work by Jasmine Heckenberg of Sfumato Hair is a reference to the singular rose: a flower out of reach, always striving for that thing we can never obtain, like a mirage in the desert. The braiding techniques that she utilized reflects the powerful female imagery of a warrior priestess, adorned with a crown of thorns. Battle ready and independent, in a world dominated by male leadership.

The main objective of the Galvanized collection was to create a metallic feel in hair. rokk ebony hairstylist Scott Condon worked alongside colorist Charlene Fernandez to explore steam punk, the raw elements of metal sculpture, metal décor and the unique nature of the material itself.

Anne Veck for Anne Veck Salons felt a desire to pay homage to the stylish impact of French haute couture and, in particular, the inspiration Alexandre de Paris has had on her work. She harnessed her energy to create iconic and extreme images in black and white, which focused solely on the hair, featuring textures, shapes and styles within the shadows.

Being named a NAHA finalist is an incredible honor and validation for Stacey Smoker’s years of hard and personally fulfilling work. Despite an innate talent for the craft, Stacey would be licensed and practicing hair for years before finally accepting her calling; giving her career the focus and serious attention a professional should. Today she is grateful for this opportunity and will keep pushing and creating her best work everyday.
