At the 2019 distributor show in Las Vegas, our editors discovered a range of new and soon-to-launch products and tools, while uncovering a few trends along the way.
Responsible Sourcing
One of the emerging trends involves sustainable sourcing and recycled and recyclable packaging. FFØR, a free-from-anything-harsh-or-harmful line of hair care only works with suppliers that can verify their sourcing. The brand’s bottles are also made with post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.

New Ingredient Finds
Always looking for the best possible ingredients for hair, several brands stepped up with new, in many cases interesting, sources.
L’Alga Seawet
This rejuvenating cleanser combines AlgaNord 5 biotechnology complex with deeply hydrating and reconstructive ingredients to reinforce hair and balance the scalp. At the heart of L’Alga’s formulation is an extremely powerful cocktail of super algae with minerals, biotin, essential fatty acids, and Vitamin B. Embracing Texture
New products for textured hair also made a showing. Ouidad launched three new styling products designed exclusively for the needs of curly hair. Luseta introduced its Curl Enhancing Coconut Oil Collection while Miracle 9 stepped up with a kid’s curl-centric line.
Luseta Curl Enhancing Coconut Oil Collection
A gentle collection that can rid the hair strands of build-up adding more bounce to your curls. The formula is lightweight, but since it contains coconut oil, it still packs a lot of moisturizing power. Even dry hair will have more shine and luster. Plus, this curl enhancing collection will also add plenty of overall volume to the hair. It also contains plenty of vitamins and beneficial fats which promote hair growth.
Tool Time
Cosmoprof saw an array of new tools hit the market – from reversed curling wands, psychedelic dryers, and styling irons, a honeycomb ceramic dryer, even no-knot detangling brushes.
Hot Tools Black GoldProfessional Extra Long Reverse Tapered Curling Iron
One of three new irons launched at Cosmoprof, this extra-long barrel spans from 1.25-.75 inches in diameter. Black Gold combines Titanium’s durability and corrosion-resistance to styling products with the company’s Micro-Shines ceramic finish to minimize friction and reduce damage to hair. Pulse technology maintains precise barrel temperatures up to 455˚for uninterrupted heat. This tool is ideal to curl longer hair for natural-looking curls and waves.
Sutra BD2 Blow Dryer
Using a honeycomb ceramic coil and a powerful brushless motor, this dryer offers a lightweight design. Three adjustable heat settings and two speed settings provide the ultimate range of setting for any need while the cool shot feature seals in your style. The dryer, which is available this fall) includes a 9-foot cord and a large and a small concentrator.
Amika Illuminati Diamond Ceramic Styler
Tourmaline and mineral powders create a rich infusion of consistent far-infrared heat within the styler’s diamond plates. The iron produces negative ions, sealing the cuticle to lock in moisture for frizz-free, shiny hair. With its ultra-lightweight design, 1-inch floating plates and adjustable digital LED temperature indicator, this styler provides precise control and healthier heat styling.
The Knot Dr. Pro
Created by hairstylist John Laverock, Knot Dr. detangling hairbrushes diffuse and detangle the toughest knots in dry or wet hair. The special bristles flex and release, allowing them to gently and efficiently detangle knots with ease - eliminating the discomfort and breakage associated with generic hairbrushes. The Pro brush has a sleek black, rubberized body with a brightly colored pad and bristle tips. The paddle is impact resistant but offers a very luxurious and comfortable grip.
What the Doctor Ordered
Another trend spotted at Cosmoprof involved medical professionals launching new products to help tackle an array of issues, including hair loss.
Spare My Hair
A natural, plant-powered line of shampoo, conditioner, scalp solution and multi-vitamins are for both men and women experiencing hair loss and fine and thinning hair. The line was created by Shahinaz Soliman, MD, a board-certified physician with a family practice and MedSpa in Southern California, in response to her patients who sought solutions for hair loss.
Expanding into Haircare
Some skin or body care or grooming lines branched out with new offerings for hair care.
California Mango Sulfate-Free Shampoo
One of three new hair products recently launched by this line of body care, California Mango Sulfate-Free Shampoo is lightweight and gentle enough for everyday use. Great for color-treated and chemically altered hair, it gently cleanses, restores moisture, and builds inner strength while providing fullness, natural shine, and control.
Truman’s Beard Oil
Formulated with jojoba and avocado oils to nourish, manage, and treat facial, Truman’s Beard Oil is an essential grooming tool for men. Using natural oils with a subtle, masculine scent this product is designed to soften beard hair while maintaining shape. A brand of 10 hair, skin, and grooming products just for men, this line was developed by the owners of Truman’s NYC Gentleman’s Groomers – a Manhattan-based chain of male-centric salons.
New Packaging
A handful of manufacturers unveiled new packaging – offering a fresh look to their classic hair care and styling line.
Davroe Ends Repair
Showcasing a worldwide launch of repackaging, Davroe introduced Ends Repair at Cosmoprof. This unique multi-action leave-in treatment seals split ends, and repairs and moisturizes the hair to prevent breakage. It promotes shine and reduces fly-aways, leaving hair soft and silky.
