How to Use Argan Oil

Ever wonder how to correctly use your precious vile of Argan oil? This liquid gold elixir has been utilized for many uses for centuries. Here are a few suggestions to help add hydration to your skin, hair and cuticles.

On Skin

For face and neck, it can be used in place of other moisturizing creams or lotions once or twice a day to prevent dryness, fine lines and wrinkles and help keep the skin soft and supple.  Use around the eyes to prevent fine lines and promote skin elasticity. If using pure raw Argan oil, only a two to three drops are required for your whole face and neck. Argan oil will absorb completely into the skin and will not clog pores or leave a greasy feeling. Argan oil also makes a very good make-up base.

For hands and body, Argan oil can also be used as a moisturizer to soothe dry, rough and itchy skin. Apply one or two drops as needed and gently massage into the skin. Argan oil will also help to relieve the symptoms of skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

To prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, regularly apply Argan oil to the skin around the stomach or other parts of the body as needed. Argan oil works better for prevention, but if stretch marks are already present, regular application of Argan oil will help to restore elasticity of the skin in the affected area and may help to fade the stretch marks.

On Nails

Massage one or two drops of Argan oil into the cuticles to moisturize and soften this delicate skin. To strengthen nails, make a 50-50 mixture of Argan oil and lemon juice and soak your nails and cuticles for 10 minutes.  Toe nails can similarly be treated with Argan oil.

On Hair

Argan oil can be applied on hair in several ways. It depends on your hair type whether or not you should leave it in or not. While argan oil is a lightweight oil, fine hair can appear greasy if oil is left in. For coarser dry hair, argan oil is a great way to tame the frizz.

For a moisture treatment, before washing your hair apply Argan oil on the scalp and throughout the hair. Softly massage into your scalp and then use a brush or comb to distribute the oil evenly from the roots to tips of hair. Wrap your head in a warm towel and leave for 10-15 minutes. Then, thoroughly wash your hair. If you hair is very dry, you will want to use a conditioner after washing your hair.

To control frizziness and give shine to the hair, apply Argan oil  after hair is washed and dried.  Rub one to two drops between fingertips and lightly smooth through the hair. Use more as needed or desired. Unless your hair is very dry, avoid applying near the hairline, as this may make your hair appear greasy.

To enhance natural waves, rub one to two drops of Argan oil between palms of hands and scrunch into wet hair, starting from the bottom and working up. To prevent frizziness, avoid touching hair too much after it has dried.
