FOH: For a bride's special day, how much research and prep should she put into her makeup?

Beta: Whenever I work with brides I always encourage them to do as much or as little as they feel comfortable with. There are a lot of different “rules” out there when you are getting married but the most important thing to remember is that it is your day and ultimately you just want to be comfortable. I recommend having 3-4 makeup trials to test a few different looks so that you can compare them.  Make sure to test the wear of each look, go out with friends and take pictures, that way you ensure that your makeup will be exactly how you want it for the entirety of your big day!

FOH: What are some of the makeup mistakes that many brides make?

Beta: There are so many brides that say that their biggest mistake was that they put on too much or too little.  This links back to really trying the makeup and wearing it out before the wedding day. Know the makeup artist and make sure that they know you and what looks you prefer.  Sometimes more “natural” brides will put on more makeup than what they are actually comfortable with, which can be great for the pictures but sometimes it can feel too cakey or heavy on their skin.  I like to consult with the bride to find out if they want the pictures to look perfect or if they want a more natural look.

FOH: How can brides keep their makeup fresh during the wedding, reception and more so, for the pictures?

Beta: The key to this is making sure you have had a good night’s sleep so that your skin is well moisturized.  Drinking a lot of water will also help prep your skin for application.  Using a primer like the Palladio Foundation Primer all over the face will help smooth out the skin tone so that when you apply foundation and powder it creates a smooth, long-lasting look.  Your eyes, brows, and lashes generally have good lasting power throughout the day, but the one thing you will probably have to re-touch will be the lips.  A trick that I love to do is to color the lips in using the Palladio Precision Lip Liner or Lip Stain and then touch up throughout the day using the High-Intensity Lip Balm or Plum ‘N’ Shine Lip Gloss to pump up the color.  I’m Blushing 2-in-1 Cheek & Lip Tint is a great product to carry around throughout the day because you can use it not only for illumination on the cheeks but the creamy formula is a great touch up for the lips as well.  You can even take your finger and add a touch of it to the corner of the eye to add beautiful dimension. Rice Paper is another great tool perfect for blotting away shine and a light powder application for a matte touch up to your foundation.

FOH: What are some of the go-to color palettes and or trends for eyes, brows, cheeks, and lips for spring/summer weddings?

Beta: It’s best to keep with the natural or taupe palettes like Silk FX in Debutante or Eyeshadow Quad in color Copper ‘N’ Chic. Recently brides have been a little more daring with their makeup colors using classic black liquid liner and a bold lip.  This season I am blending both of those trends by using natural contour colors through the eyes and face and applying a bold, defined liner like Fifty-Fifty. I like to add lashes to give a more dramatic fit on the eyes and then complete the look with a bold fuchsia or pink lip like the Palladio Velvet Matte which has a modern matte finish and creamy consistency that is very comfortable on the lips.

FOH: As a makeup artist, what are some of your go-to products in your kit that you cannot do without for weddings?

Beta: When creating a look that has to keep all day it is important to make sure the skin is set from the beginning of the day.   My go-to products always include a good foundation primer, liquid foundation, and setting the look with Palladio’s popular Rice Powder.  For minor touch-ups throughout the day I always have the Rice Papers on hand for Brides who’s skin tends to shine and the I’m Blushing 2-in-1 Cheek & Lip Tint for multi-functional application and color.  For an evening wedding or someone who loves bold color, I always have my Velvet Matte on hand for long-lasting lips.  I love having a controllable eyeliner like Palladio’s Fifty-Fifty, which has dual-sized tips to give the best-defined look for both round and almond eyes.
