These texture-focused creations by Sally Brooks, 2020's British Hairdresser of the Year, are a result of her ingenuity and "out of the box" thinking during last year's shutdowns. Not able to use live models, she chose these beautiful swan neck mannequins and set out to create individual masterpieces on an otherwise tight budget. And the results? Simply breathtaking!

This alien-inspired series by Liza Espinoza Achurra was motivated by the works of HR Giger, specifically the visual design of the creature in the Alien movie series, a Xenophobe. The body painting created an extraterrestrial presence with components of the creature boldly fused with the hairstyles. A nominee for the 2021 North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) this avant garde imagery lends itself to a fantastical world, created in the imagination of the viewer.

Hair artist Danny Pato tapped some of the movements and obsessions of the '60s, from pop art and fashion to architecture, and mixed it with space travel, new wave, and rebellion—but he reimagined it all for today. The hair in his collection is high-contrast black and white set against a monochromatic palette. He took a long bob (lob) and gave it shattered layers of black and white and created finger-waves with a finger-like illusion. For a shorter haircut, he made disconnected layers that integrate and provide a choppy effect. In another look, Pato produced long pin-straight hair with half-and-half black and white offset by playful polka dots; voluminous curly hair and a sleek bowl cut is contrasted with long, structured panels.

Piece-y, edgy, and disconnected, these dramatic punk-inspired looks flaunt splayed plumes, tufts, and bitten, paneled, or sheared fringes. It's a cross of goth meets the '80s with vibrant color bursting from deep black bases. It's modern but retro, fun but serious, dark but vibrant.. all in one!

"I’m always inspired by the creative, strong women around me. I had a flashback to my childhood, and to the television shows depicting the future.  These sci-fi shows had strong powerful female characters with bold hair so I thought I could capture that identity in the collection.
