Sud Frequency

How often should you wash your mane? This question arises nearly every time you sit down to get a blowout. Some sources say that washing your hair every single day dooms you to have a less healthy scalp and dried-out locks. Others say that sudsing up every day is a must. The truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to how often you should wash your hair, but there are tips that may help figure out what works best for you.

According to the team at Biosilk, how often you should suds up your locks is largely based on your hair type. This hair care company feels that texture is one aspect of hair washing that might single-handedly be the most important.

Fine to Normal Hair

If your hair tends to fare more on the fine side of the spectrum, you’re likely prone to washing your hair more frequently. Straight and/or fine hair has a tendency to easily become coated by sebum, which causes the hair to look greasy at a much quicker rate than curly or wavy hair. If you feel that you need to wash your hair every day or every other day, don’t fret. Use a gentle, cleansing shampoo and conditioner. Doing so will help the hair to avoid looking so matted as the scalp produces natural oils. If you’re looking for an interim, use a dry shampoo moderately to rid your hair of a greasy appearance.

Thick/Curly Hair

For those blessed with thick, curly or wavy hair, you can potentially go up to four days or more without washing your hair. The more you wash it, the more likely you are to strip your hair of its natural oils. That's why it’s important to try to avoid shampooing for as long as possible. Curly and wavy hair is more prone to drying out due to the inability of the natural oils at your scalp to coat the strands as easily. Consequently, over-washing, in this case, can cause the hair to become frizzy. That's why it’s important to keep your hair moisturized in order to maintain a soft and frizz-free appearance. In the case of thick and/or curly hair, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner combo and opt for regular deep treatments to keep your hair hydrated.
