A New Future

Introducing Glitch - a genuinely unique concept hair salon located in Bristol, England. Touted as the only place in the world where you can appreciate art, listen to live tunes, nosh on proper Italian eats, oh, and get your hair done under one roof, this houseplant-adorned space is an eclectic paradise.

Co-owners Stephàn Vi and Frank Lunette took inspiration from industrial and Scandinavian design to create what the duo likes to call a 'Fashion Punk" appeal. With entirely different backgrounds, the two friends turned business partners combined various forms of media to create a unique experience for their clients.

After starting his career in 2002 in Florence, Vi's hairdressing skills took him all over Italy. Always looking for something new, he moved to London in 2010 where he worked as a session stylist in the fashion and music industries. According to Vi, this first trip to London was a turning point for him, as the city completely changed his vision of what salons could be.

With the idea of creating a unique concept salon, Vi went back to his native Italy and opened a hybrid hair studio and tattoo shop. At the salon’s grand opening he met Frank Lunette - a DJ with a background in art and design. The two sparked up a conversation. They hit it off and decided to collaborate on a project that would eventually take them to Old Market in Bristol, England where the current Glitch was realized.

“Bristol is a very creative city, from an amazing music scene to the incredible art culture, this has allowed us to push the boundaries of what a “salon” can be. We were tired of spending time in boring, standard salons that stink of cosmetics and we were searching to give to our customers a completely unique experience,” said Vi.

Glitch has now been opened since June of 2017 and the sights, sounds, and scents create an oasis for the senses. On any given day, people are eating and listening to music while having their hair done – there’s art to enjoy and rich greenery everywhere.

Everything for Glitch was done in-house by Vi and Lunette from the furniture, sound engineering, even the art installations. There’s typically an art exhibition each month by a local artist, where the artwork is both appreciated and available for sale.

In addition to private parties and hosted gigs, Glitch also offers live music for clients throughout the work week and even more so on the weekends. A lot of different kinds of music can be found at Glitch from live jazz to techno, to highly intimate gigs collaborating with solar sound.

On the food side, Vi and Lunette collaborated with Grano, a ‘grab and go’ kitchen offering proper Italian fare. Everything they serve is seasonal, with vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options available.

According to Vi, coming up with the right name for their business was a hard task, but when the duo realized that they wanted to be a glitch in the system of hair salons, the name made sense.

When asked about Glitch’s unique tagline, the salon is dead; a new future has arrived, Vi said, “Our profession is like an art exhibition; we need to be more creative and push our boundaries. I think the idea to combine different activities in one place is already the present future.”
