Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the International Salon and Spa Expo or ISSE took place January 26-28, 2019 at the Long Beach Convention Center. The largest professional beauty event on the West Coast, ISSE is produced by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA), the largest trade organization representing the beauty industry. This year’s show was an epic weekend as PBA merged their three biggest shows: ISSE, NAHA, and Beacon for the first time, and in time for ISSE’s 20-year celebration.

ISSE 2019With over 300 exhibitors in attendance, ISSE brought together thousands of beauty professionals, influencers, educators, and other beauty figures from across the country to experience educational classes, witness new trends, and shop tools, products, and techniques on the exhibit floor. Over 200 complementary and premium haircutting and styling, color, makeup artistry, business, and skin and nail care classes took place at ISSE all designed to enrich attendees’ careers and ultimate creativity. Inspiration Stage and Center Stage showcased live demonstrations by artists such as Tabatha Coffey, Chelsea James, Candy Shaw, Oscar Bond, and others, and with brands such as Matrix Remix, Ted Gibson EDU, Pulp Riot, and more.

Now in its 20th year, the International Salon and Spa Expo remains the showcase event for the licensed beauty professional. Through the newest and most innovative education, opportunities to connect face to face with brands, and three days of personal connection with peers across the country, ISSE embodies the heart and soul of the professional beauty industry,” mentioned Professional Beauty Association Executive Director Steve Sleeper.

Competitions at ISSE included the Major League Barber Brawl and the Nail Competition. PBA also included new fundraising opportunities to the show, which benefited charities like the Disaster Relief Fund through a beauty bar and CUT IT OUT through a custom braid bar led by Jenny Strebe and her influencer friends, Larisa Love, and Shelley Gregory.

The HUB by PBA featured special interactive photo ops, the PBA Membership booth, Government Affairs station, PBA Insurance Marketplace, and the Beauty Cast Network Career Fair.

About ISSE
Launched in 1999 as the International Cosmetology Expo and later renamed in 2001, the International Salon and Spa Expo is an international platform for salon and spa professionals and businesses bringing creative professionals the latest trends, newest products and live in-person education meant to help build careers and businesses. In 2019, ISSE shifted the focus away from product purchase and into innovative education to attract new generations of licensed professionals.

Formed by the merger of the Beauty and Barber Supply Institute (BBSI), American Beauty Association (ABA), The Salon Association (TSA), and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA), the Professional Beauty Association is the only organization to represent the entire beauty industry.

Representing nearly 2,000 beauty-centric businesses, and more than 50,000 individuals, PBA members include manufacturers, distributors, salons, spas, schools, independent practitioners, students, and industry suppliers. In addition to advocacy, PBA provides its members with opportunities to save money on events and education, and access to industry research and resources. Committed to the long-term success of the stylist and the businesses that employ and support them, PBA is focused on enhancing the professionalism of the industry and committed to helping members achieve personal and professional excellence.
