Sisters Karla Pelaez-Barrick and Victoria Pelaez and their team at Salon Kavi created Double Take – a stunning collection of haircut and color trends. This San Mateo, California based team chose to produce finished looks featuring trend-worthy fashion tones throughout. Look for muted mermaid hues in blues, greens, and purples and pops of intense red or golden brown through darker foundations. It’s as diverse and eclectic and the women who wear them.
The Looks
For Sal, her asymmetrical undercut now sports a grungy aquamarine mermaid color with fun little pops of warmth on the ends. The top of the haircut was texturized, layered for volume, and then the sides were carved into a fun detail. The cut was texturized to soften the perimeter and then a micro fringe was added to connect with the side.
To style, Oribe Volumista was applied at the roots and Run-Through detangling primer from the mid-shaft to the ends. The hair was blow-dried with a vent brush lifting at the root for volume. Oribe Swept Up volumizing powder was applied at the root while Airstyle flexible finishing cream was used to piece through the mostly straight look.

Nancy’s previous color was dark gray with a half-inch of dark regrowth so a fun abstract color was produced with deep metallic mauve and pops of canary on the ends.
For the haircut, a bold perimeter was created taking the length to the jawline and leaving disconnected bits out here and there. Everything in front of the ear was left out of the cut and was instead personalized with slide cutting. A triangle section of the crown was texturized to leave a disheveled, perfectly imperfect finish.
To style, Oribe Run-Through and Kerastase Serum Therapiste were layered onto damp hair before wrap-drying with a Denman brush, which helped to tame any natural texture. Oribe Swept Up and a little Freestyler hairspray added a flexible but strong hold.

For Sonia, the damaged length was removed and cut to the jawline leaving a strong perimeter line but the crown was into in order to add lift, texture, and movement. The fri
nge was cleaned up by texturizing and pushing it to the side and the color was taken to a multi-dimensional natural auburn hue.
To style a modernized version of a classic style, Oribe Gel Serum was applied to add smoothness and hold. The hair was rough-dried with a flat brush and flat ironed to detail the ends. Oribe Airstyler provided the perfect finishing touches.
To create a softly textured look, bend large sections of hair using a flat and then work through a styling clay or wax-based lotion.
